Kids Chapter Check-Ins
Kids Chapter Check-In is a podcast designed to support readers in grades 3-6 as they pause, think, and talk about the books they're reading.
This is not a read-aloud. Readers should read the chapters on their own, then tune in for a guided check-in that builds vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and speaking and listening skills in a calm, approachable way.
Each episode focuses on a portion of a popular chapter book and walks readers through thoughtful discussions and writing opportunities. The goal is for each episode to feel like a kid friendly book club--not an overwhelming lesson.
New episodes are released weekly, with occasional Choose Your Own Choice Check-Ins that work with any chapter book.
Created by an elementary teacher with over a decade of classroom experience, Kids Chapter Check-In is perfect for:
-home reading
-summer reading
-classrooms
-independent listening
Optional companion packs are available on Etsy and Teachers Pay Teachers for families and educators who are looking for more structure and support.

Let's get started!
Hi, I'm an elementary school teacher, a book lover, and the proud creator of Kids Chapter Check-Ins. Every year, my favorite classroom lessons revolve around talking about books with kids. There is something truly magical about seeing a child experience the joy of falling in love with a new character, feeling the suspense of a good cliffhanger, or seeing them get excited about realizing that their favorite books are part of a larger series. Through my years in the classroom, a few things have been true year after year. First, I've learned that even kids who can read the words on the pages don't always have the skills to talk about and comprehend what's really happening in the text. Second, I've learned that kids' comprehension skyrockets when they're given the chance to pause, think, and talk about the books they're reading. And third, I've learned that with guided conversations, even my most reluctant readers enjoy reading and talking about books. My goal with Kids Chapter Check-Ins is to provide teacher-level support beyond the classroom. Whether you're on your way to soccer practice, traveling home from a road trip, or gathering at the kitchen table for homework time, Kids Chapter Check-Ins is here to bring engaging, thoughtful conversations wherever you need them. This is not a read-aloud. It's a space for kids to talk about the books they love while secretly building up their comprehension, writing, and speaking and listening skills. Each season features a novel that many elementary readers are already exploring and enjoying. Each episode walks kids through a few chapters at a time. We start by talking through what happened in the chapters, we dig into a vocabulary word, focus on a reading skill, and end with a short writing or discussion activity. It's like having a gentle guide sitting with your child as they read, helping them to slow down, engage with the story, and grow as a reader. After each novel, you'll also find a special choose your own check-in episode. These episodes guide your child through their own thinking with a book of their choice, making the podcast a tool that can guide them through any book, any day. And for families that are looking for even more structure, companion packs are available. Each companion pack aligns with the novel and provides additional opportunities to talk, think, and write together. Whether you have a reluctant reader, a struggling reader, or a reader who benefits from a bit more guidance, you'll find helpful support here. Kids Chapter Check-Ins is here to make reading time meaningful, enjoyable, manageable, and connected. Because I truly believe that books are better together. So grab a book and let's check in.
